About Teaching

We cover all areas of language - speaking, listening, reading, writing, alongside vocabulary, grammar and functional language. We use a wide range of proven, engaging communicative activities to help students practise the language with focus and fun, and in real life situations.

TEACHING METHOD

We teach a specific communicative method, developed by many years of teaching experience within IHWO. We put the student in the centre of our lessons not the teacher, to maximise the opportunity to speak, use and engage with the language. Our teachers respond the needs and abilities of students to make sure every one of them gets the most out of the course. 

ENGLISH IN THE CLASSROOM

Classes are often shared by 2 alternating teachers, for example one local Czech and a non-Czech teacher. Both speak almost entirely in English so students constantly practise communicative skills and can use and improvise with the language.

INDIVIDUAL APPROACH

We regulary assess students' progress which helps us ensure they are improving and adapt the course around their needs. Our policy is to have a formal assessment at the end of each semester.

NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN THE GROUP

The number of students in each group ranges from 3 to 12 (18 - in the case of our intensive courses). This means our teachers can give enough attention to each student and adapt their teaching to their strengths and weaknesses.

The General English courses for children and teenagers have an age-range of no more than 2 years. Sometimes the Exam Courses for Teens have a slightly wider range.

BEFORE THE COURSE BEGINS

We have a placement test system which includes language (grammar, vocabulary and functions), writing and speaking which takes 50-60 minutes. From this we can place each student in the most appropriate class for them.

You will be surprised at how simple it is to get started. The placement test, consultation and trial lesson are all free of charge; and with our range of courses there will always be one that fits in with your family and work commitments. Learning English is not easy, so we believe that getting started should be.

CAMBRIDGE ENGLISH EXAMS

Our Cambridge English exam students are more than 90% successful on a regular basis. Among our staff we have experienced examiners for all levels of Cambridge and IELTS exams.
